Culture District Development

Salt Lake City, Utah

Prescott Muir Architects (PMA)

The plaza is the stage for outdoor events and concerts and is indeed the living room for the city. The Art Center is an extension of the new theatre/ arts district anchored by a new 2500 seat theater on Main Street. The center is Utah’s premier exhibition space for contemporary art. The program will include grand gallery space, two exhibit galleries, one gallery dedicated to traveling exhibits, administrative offices, storage, framing, shipping and receiving, café, outdoor seating and an outdoor sculpture plaza that engages the neighborhood.

During my time at PMA, I was involved in a preparation research for the development of the new Salt Lake City culture district that includes cultural district analysis and developing a prototype of a performance theatre. The process was an effort to find possible locations for a new performance theatre and an art center. My role included:

  • Block Measurement & documentation
  • Three dimensional studies
  • Theatre prototype research
  • SLC City council presentation preparation
